In the May 7 Lok Sabha elections, Ravinder Raina, the head of the Jammu and Kashmir branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has decided not to cast his vote for the BJP since they have not selected a candidate in the crucial Anantnag-Rajouri seat.
In the third round of Jammu and Kashmir’s general elections, polls for the Lok Sabha constituency representing Anantnag and Rajouri will be held on May 7.
In addition, the BJP has not submitted a candidate for the Baramulla or Srinagar seats, where elections are scheduled for May 13 and May 20, respectively.
After coming under heavy fire for not fielding candidates for any of the three Lok Sabha seats, particularly the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, Raina said that the party’s top command had made the decision not to run for office in Kashmir.
“On our own, we were interested in running for all three of the Kashmiri Lok Sabha seats, but sometimes decisions are made in order to accomplish a bigger objective,” he stated.
Raina is a native of the Rajouri district’s Nowshera assembly constituency.
According to Raina, “We are supporting those parties that are eager to serve society, are patriotic, are working to improve Kashmir, and are promoting peace and brotherhood.”
But since the BJP is not running, Raina will vote on May 7 for the party or candidate of his choosing.
The leader of the National Conference, Mian Altaf, and PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, are directly competing from the constituency.
The people of Kashmir were advised not to vote for “dynastic parties” such as the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, and Congress by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally held on April 16 in Jammu’s Paloura.

Union home minister Amit Shah had claimed that the BJP believed in winning hearts, which will ultimately lead to the Lotus, the party’s electoral emblem, blooming throughout Kashmir. He had rejected the opposing parties’ claims that the saffron party was more concerned with the welfare of its people than the land of Kashmir.
“I want to clear the misgivings being created among Kashmiri youths that the BJP wants to take the land of Kashmir by force,” Shah stated in an attempt to connect with the younger generation in the region. The BJP is opposed to those who take over territory by force and instead advocates winning over people’s hearts.
