Authorities announced that the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will undergo closure for 14 hours, starting from Saturday at 10 pm until Sunday at 12 noon. This closure is necessary to facilitate widening efforts in the Ramban district. The widening work primarily targets sections of the highway impacted by landslides and other adverse effects from recent bouts of rainfall and snowfall.
Due to landslide debris in Ramban causing poor road conditions and narrowing at multiple points, traffic on the highway will be restricted to one-way movement. A 14-hour suspension will commence from 10 pm on Saturday night to facilitate the clearing of debris and restoration of affected stretches.

In view of the demand received from Ramban, Project Director, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and to ensure the safety and well-being of the general public/passengers/drivers, approval has been given to widen the carriageway to two lanes. In Dhalwas,” read an official order.
“During the suspension, widening will also be carried out at other locations for restoration from Nashri to Banihal,” it said. The 250 km long highway is the lifeline of supplies for landlocked Kashmir as all essential commodities are transported on it.
